Resumo

Heat-transfer measurements were made for filmwise condensation of steam on horizontal finned tubes under vacuum and at near-atmospheric pressure. Data were obtained for copper tubes with fins of rectangular, triangular, trapezoidal and near-parabolic cross sections and for a smooth tube having an outer diameter equal to the root diameter of the finned tubes.
Maximum steam-side enhancements of about A under vacuum and about 6 at atmospheric pressure were obtained compared to the smooth tube at the same heat flux. For the same fin height and spacing, fin shape altered the measured steam-side heat-transfer coefficient by approximately 10 to 15 percent, and a fin shape that provides for a gradually decreasing curvature from fin tip to fin root is believed to be best.
