Resumo

An analysis is presented for the case of a circular plate radiating to space with uniform heat flux applied to central uniform thickness core and linearly tapering at the edge. The governing nonlinear differential equations for the two zones are solved numerically using finite-difference scheme. The plate is analyzed with reference to five non-dimensional parameters namely thickness ratio,(d*), radius ratio (R*o ), heat flux parameter (Q* ), environment parameter (Z) and profile number (ξ).An iterative procedure is used to evaluate the core thickness for any given case. Weight and efficiency equations are given. Based on the design calculations optimum weight graph is presented for different heat load, heat flux and radiative properties for aluminium radiators. Using multiple optimization criteria a study is made to optimize both mass and area. This study indicates a larger weight for radiator as compared to only mass optimized one.
