Resumo

A review of various empirical and theoretically-based critical heat flux (CHF) prediction methods in non-aqueous fluids and CHF scaling techniques between different fluids has been made. Three methods were selected for further study: (i) non-dimensional CHF table derived by non-dimensionalizing the standard CHF table using accepted CHF scaling techniques, (ii) Weisman's theoretically based model for predicting CHF at low qualities, and (iii) Katto's latest empirical correlation for predicting CHF in various fluids at positive dryout qualities.
A comparison of predicted CHF values with measured CHF values for water, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and various freons was made. It was found that the non-dimensional CHF table could predict the CHF over a wide range of pressures, qualities, and mass flows.
