Resumo

One of the most effective thermal protection methods from high temperature flows is ablation cooling. Ablation due to existence of moving solid interface, coordinates of which are unknown apriori, represents a complicated and nonlinear problem, analytic solution of which is practically impossible in general. At present to solve this problem numerical finite element methods, especially suited for regions of complicated geometry, are used successfully. An attempt has been undertaken in this paper to develop an effective finite element scheme for solution of two-dimensional ablation problem for bodies of complicated geometry. The main feature of the proposed scheme is employment of quadratic finite element phase change interface approximation, which permits with sufficient accuracy to detect curvilinear ablation front.
