Resumo

A heated bank of tubes in an enclosure with a moving floor is a model of a drying or annealing furnace. Openings exist at each side of the furnace to allow the entry and exit of items carried on the moving floor, although the present study is limited to heat transfer to the floor itself. A computational study of heat transfer by convection and radiation in such a furnace is described. The convection is treated by a finite volume formulation, while the Monte Carlo method has been used to calculate radiation view factors. The induced velocities and temperature distributions in the furnace have been computed. Heat transfer rates to the moving floor as a function of the floor speed and the tube temperature have been obtained.
