Resumo

Extended surfaces, commonly known as fins, often offer an economical and troublefree solution in many situations demanding natural convection cooling. Heat sinks in the form of fin arrays on horizontal and vertical surfaces are used in a variety of engineering applications. Studies of heat transfer and fluid flow associated with such arrays are, therefore, of considerable engineering significance. The main controlling variables generally available to the designer are the orientation and geometry of the fin arrays. This paper presents theoretical analysis of vertical base arrays having vertical fins of different shapes and their rectangular equivalents.
