Resumo

In this work, an optimization problem was formulated to maximize the global conductance where the parameters are the heat source locations and the objective function is a numerical simulation of a vertical square cavity. The computational domain is a square cavity with adiabatic surfaces, except for the isothermal opposing wall and the three identical heat sources with uniform heat flux. Numerical simulation was obtained by finite volumes method using the SIMPLE algorithm, and the flow was assumed incompressible. The optimization method employed was the Micro Genetic Algorithm with a five-individual population and at most 50 generations. The fitness of each individual, or parameters set, is represented by the objective function or, in this work, by a numerical simulation for the parameters set. The results for an enclosure with three heat sources on an adiabatic wall showed good agreement with literature, performing about 250 objective function evaluations for each Rayleigh number studied, in contrast with 3.43 × 105 evaluations that would be necessary in an extensive search, confirming the methodology as computationally feasible for the optimal location of heat sources in a vertical wall.
