Resumo

The present paper starts with a review of the finite element method for fluid dynamics. This is followed by a comparison between the finite volume and finite element methods. The procedures of interest in the present paper are edge based data structure, local conservation and unified approach to solve heat conduction, high speed flows, heat convection and thermal and mechanical stresses. The presented unified approach is useful in several applications including electronic cooling, high temperature fuel cells, high temperature heat exchangers and aerospace applications. Several examples, both benchmarks and applications, are provided to support the arguments presented.
