Resumo

The micro-macro model is investigated for transient radiative transfer simulations with the discrete-ordinate method. The model decomposes the radiative intensity into its macroscopic and its mesoscopic parts. A coupled system of two equations, one at the macroscopic and the other at the mesoscopic scale, is obtained and solved. The radiative transfer predicitions are more accurate with the micro-macro model than with the radiative transfer equation when the scattering optical thickness becomes important, since the in-scattering term in the micro-macro model is decreased with the help of the macroscopic equation. The micro-macro model is therefore an efficient alternative to the transient radiative transfer equation when the physical conditions are close to the diffusive regime.
