Resumo

As a new method for electronic device thermal management, ionic wind cooling systems generate air flow to enhance convection heat transfer from a surface, without moving parts nor making much noise. There have been many efforts to increase the velocity and interpret the mechanism of ionic wind. We designed an ionic wind cooling system with wire-to-wire group electrodes under a positive corona discharge in air and explored experimentally the relationship between structural parameters and performance parameters. The results show a linear relationship between electrode voltage and square of wind velocity. Furthermore, we propose that integral average value of the efficiency-voltage curve of ionic wind could be regarded as the average efficiency, which can be applied to evaluating the performance of the ionic wind cooling system.
