Resumo

In the present study, the thermal characteristics of a novel electrical heat storage unit that utilizes latent heat storage and flat micro-heat pipe arrays (FMHPAs) was investigated experimentally and numerically. Electric power was supplied to melt the PCM from solid to liquid. A transient three-dimensional finite volume based model using an enthalpy-porosity formulation is implemented to analyze the performance of the proposed heat storage in charging process. The experimental and simulation results are in good agreement, which proves the correctness of this model. The effects of electrical heating power, fin height and spacing on the thermal response of the heat storage have been studied. The experimental and the simulation results are in good agreement, and the results of the research could guide the devise of the heat storage when using FMHPA as the core element.
