UNDERSTANDING THE LOCATION OF HOT SPOTS IN TRANSFORMER WINDINGS
Resumo
The reliability of high voltage power transformers depends on a good understanding of the thermal performance. To investigate hot spot formation in transformer windings, an experimental test rig in aluminum has been constructed, consisting of 50 heated discs stacked on top of each other, separated by thin oil ducts. Results are presented for various flow rates, demonstrating the formation of one or more local hotspots in different locations depending on the flow conditions. CFD analysis using a two-dimensional model implemented in Ansys Fluent provides further insight into the flow behavior of the dielectric liquid through the transformer winding.
