Аннотация

The paper describes a number of related experimental studies relevant to the mechanisms of the burnout phenomenon. Using apparatus operating at low pressure (2-4 × 105 N/m2) measurements were made of equilibrium entrainment in adiabatic steam-water annular flow, the secondary effects of subcooling and wall thickness on entrainment and burnout were studied and the direct effect of heat flux on liquid entrainment in diabatic steam-water flow was investigated. Using a loop operating at 6.89 × 106 burnout heat flux measurements were made for steam-water flow ina tube of high L/D ratio, liquid film flow rate was determined at the end of a heated tube carrying steam-water flow and a special technique was developed for the estimation of water deposition rate normal to the heated surface. The paper shows how these new results clarify and amplify the general picture of the mechanisms of burnout which had been postulated in earlier studies.
