Detailed measurements of the velocity and temperature were made on a heated surface jet discharging into a cross flow. All measurements were performed in a tilting water channel.
Thermistor temperature probes mounted on a three dimensional traverse were used to measure the local temperature.
Flow velocities and turbulence intensities were measured using a laser doppler velocimeter set up in the back scatter fringe mode.
Local measurements of the velocity and temperature fields of the surface jet were determined as functions of the Richardson number, aspect ratio of the jet, ratio of the crossflow velocity to jet velocity and the Reynolds number of the jet. The results presented include centerline trajectories, jet plume widths, temperature isotherms and turbulence intensities. The results are compared with earlier measurements.
