THE USE OF A HIGHLY CONDUCTING LINER IN REDUCING LOCAL HEAT FLUX DENSITY CONCENTRATIONS
Аннотация
The suggestion that a core-catcher for use in a fast reactor may be protected by a highly conducting liner from local failure caused by nonuniform accumulation of heat-producing debris is investigated. The effect of the liner is to reduce the amplitude of modulations of the heat flux density at the upper surface of the core-catcher. A transmission coefficient for heat flux density across the liner is derived for Fourier modes and this is applied to debris accumulations in one and two dimensions. The protection by a layer of copper of a stainless steel catcher cooled from below by sodium is examined. It is found that a single liner will only significantly reduce heat flux density concentrations with typical widths less than ten times the liner thickness.
