THE INFLUENCE OF SUBCOOLING ON POOL BOILING HEAT TRANSFER FROM A HORIZONTAL CYLINDER TO WATER
Аннотация
This paper describes an experimental study of the effect of subcooling upon pool boiling heat transfer from a horizontal stainless steel cylinder to water. Data are presented in the form of a family of curves relating surface temperature to bulk temperature for four different values of heat flux. These curves possess maxima which occur at progressively higher degrees of subcooling with increasing heat flux. A physical explanation for this behavior is presented. The maxima of the aforementioned curves correspond to points at which subcooling alters the heat transfer coefficient, as commonly defined, by about 56 per cent; while this is an appreciable effect per se, it is, nevertheless, negligible in comparison with the scatter in the data upon which presently used pool boiling correlation equations are based.
