Аннотация

Local, transient boiler-surface temperature measurements were made in saturated nitrogen and related to the conventional steady-state heat flux-excess temperature behavior. Data was acquired in discrete power increments as the nucleate-boiling regime was traversed. Individual bubble-induced temperature oscillations exhibit a 4-stage process indicative of the presence of an evaporating microlayer, and increased in magnitude as the power level was raised. At approximately one-half peak power, bubble coalescence was observed which ultimately led to the first crisis condition. A digital computer-oriented data acquisition and processing system made possible both temperature and time expansions for visual analyses.
