Аннотация

Experimental data can reveal marked differences between measured levels of heat transfer under transient (varying mass flow rate) conditions and 'pseudo-steady-state' levels calculated at the instantaneous flow rate. In the present work the performance of a low-Reynolds-number k~ε model in reproducing Nusselt number data and also purely hydrodynamic data is examined. The experimental cases considered are pipe water flow transients where the temporal variation of mass flow rate takes the form of a sinusoid imposed upon a time-mean level. Where discrepancies between computations and data arise, these may in some cases be attributable to the inapplicability of the turbulence model at high frequencies, however in other cases the cause of discrepancies is not so clear.
