Аннотация

The enhancement of the solid-liquid mass transfer rate due to interfacial waviness in falling films at high Schmidt numbers is analyzed. The time and space variation of the mass transfer rates are shown to be controlled by the periodic hydrodynamic characteristics induced by the large wave motion. In essence the model is based on a recurrent distortion and reestablishment of the wall boundary layers (momentum and mass). The bulk concentration is found to 'decay' exponentially with the wave contact time at a rate which depends on the film Reynolds and Schmidt numbers.

The proposed model is capable of predicting the observed periodicity and enhancement of the transfer rates in wavy film flow.
