Аннотация

Solidification of a pure substance (water) has been studied experimentally under mixed convection conditions in a vertical channel. For downflow between chilled vertical plates, buoyancy forces accelerate fluid in the thermal boundary layers which develop at the solid/liquid (s/l) interfaces and may induce flow reversal. Such reversal occurs for Grashof-to-Reynolds number ratios Gr/Re2 ≥ 200 and is manifested by upflow in narrow regions adjoining the downward buoyancy driven streams, as well as by development of a nearly stagnant region in the channel core. Heat transfer enhancement due to buoyancy occurs for Gr/Re2 ≥ 50.
