Аннотация

To control the flow around a square prism arranged diamond-shape in an air stream, a small rod was set upstream of the prism. The side length of the prism, D, was 20 mm and the Reynolds number based D ranged from 5.1 × 103 to 3.6 × 101 . The diameter of the control rod, d, ranged from 1 to 12 mm, and the distance between the axes of the prism and the rod, L, ranged 30 to 120 mm. Two flow patterns A and B corresponding with and without vortex shedding from the rod are occurred. In the pattern B, the shear layers from the rod reattach onto the front face of the prism. The flow pattern changes depending on the rod diameter, its position and the Reynolds number. At the optimum configuration of thr pattern B, d/D = 0.6 and L/D = 3.0, the overall heat transfer increases by 23 % and the total drag decreases by about 34 % compared with those of without the rod.
