Аннотация

The present study investigated the performance of physical water treatment (PWT) device using titanium balls for the mitigation of mineral fouling. A concentric tube heat exchanger in a counterflow set-up was utilized. Different water velocities of 0.3 m/s, 0.5 m/s, and 0.8 m/s were used to investigate their effect on the performance of the PWT device using titanium balls. The results showed that PWT-treated cases had 24.6−30% lower fouling resistances as compared to the untreated cases depending on the flow velocity and electrical conductivity. The SEM photographs of the deposits in the Ti-treated cases also revealed calcite form of scale that could easily be carried away by fluid flow shear forces.
