FREE CONVECTIVE FLOWS IN LARGE HEATED OIL STORAGE TANKS
摘要
A finite difference scheme is employed to model the free convective heat transfer to oil in large cylindrical storage tanks. The steady-state energy and flow equations, coupled with the Boussinesq approximation are transformed in vorticity and stream function variables and a numerical solution obtained utilizing an iterative method. The finite difference equations, in conservative form, are solved in the sequence: i) energy equation (Gauss-Seidel method), ii) vorticity equation (an under-relaxation technique), iii) stream function (optimized SOR method). The results are compared to experimental measurements obtained over a range of environmental conditions from a 64 m diameter by 14.5 m high oil tank containing number six fuel oil. The agreement between model and data appears to be fair.
