摘要

The method of cooling a rotating cylinder with a large outside diameter creates engineering design problems as it cannot be put into a wind tunnel. Therefore, an experimental investigation and analysis of the heat transfer for cooling a horizontal rotating cylinder with air jet flow through a strip nozzle was proposed.
From the study we came to four conclusions. these being that the influence of the rotating Reynolds number (Rer) could be neglected if it were less than critical Reynolds number Rer,cri), that the coefficient of heat transfer varies' only 5% within region of the relative distance 1/D from 0.08 to 0.2, and that the Nusselt number (Nu) is proportional to the 2/5 power of the relative width of the nozzle (B/D) and the 2/3 power of the jet flow Reynolds number (Rec). Finally, we obtained a equation which can be recommended for calculating the heat transfer from air jet flow to the rotating cylinder, when Rer < Rer,cri and 0.06<1/D<0.35.
