Abstract

This paper dealt throughly with heat transfer in a circular tube with any arbitrary axial heat flux distribution in relation to the counterpart for any arbitrary wall temperature distribution, and universal relationships were introduced between the two fundamental solutions. Furthermore the sums of infinite series in Nusselt number equations under prescribed heat flux or wall temperature conditions were classified into some groups, and their convergency was discussed. Under these consideration a method was developed to predict Nusselt number satisfactorily with a few terms of the fundamental solutions. Numerical verification of the analysis developed in this paper was made with these solutions and availability of the proposed method was proved.
