ANALYSIS OF THE FREEZING AROUND A CHILLED PIPE IN DARCY FLOW
The freezing around a chilled pipe in crossflow through a porous medium is investigated. A numerical analysis of the process of growth of the two-dimensional frozen region which is based on the finite difference method is developed. By the present analysis, the change in the shape of the frozen region, the rate of growth of the frozen region, and the amount of heat transferred to the chilled pipe are obtained. Two non-dimensional numbers governing the freezing phenomena are induced from a one-dimensional approximate analysis. The analytical results are confirmed bÑƒ the experiments of the freezing, in which the packed beds of glass beads are used as porous media.
