TURBULENT FLOW STRUCTURE IN A CLOSELY-SPACED TRIANGULAR-ARRAY ROD BUNDLE
Abstract
An experimental investigation of the turbulent flow structure in a closely-packed (c/d = 0.06) triangular-array rod bundle was undertaken. Local velocities, using a Pitot table, and Reynolds stresses, using a hot-wire anemometer, were measured over the entire cross-section of a sub-channel. From these measurements, the radial and circumferential eddy viscosities were determined. Results show that the eddy viscosities are highly anisotropic. Results obtained in this study permit much better predictions than obtained previously of such parameters as turbulent interchange mixing between closely-packed rod bundle sub-channels.
