Abstract

The absorption heat pump technology has attracted a lot of researchers' interest for a long time and has been applied in many aspects. However, current studies about the analysis and optimization of absorption heat pump cycle still have some disadvantages, especially about the optimization theory and method. In this contribution, the entransy theory is applied to analyze the ideal solution and ideal absorption heat pump cycle to investigate the operation principle of the absorption heat pump. The entransy variation between the pure state and solution state of the solvent is derived, which is not considered before. Besides, actual absorption heat pump systems are simplified to the ideal absorption heat pump cycle to find out the performance limit of the cycle, and the entransy analysis model of the ideal cycle is constructed. The entransy analysis model presents that due to the solution concentration difference in the heat pump, the ideal cycle of absorption pumps cannot be completely reversible. Besides, the COP of the ideal cycle is always equal to 2, hence the COP cannot simply describe the system performance. However, the irreversibility of the system, i.e. the entransy dissipation in the solution heat exchanger can be used to describe the effect of solution concentration difference on the system.
