RECTANGULAR PERMEABLE RIB IN TURBULENT BOUNDARY LAYER
Abstract
In this paper, the dynamic and thermal characteristics of a turbulent boundary layer in air flow over surface of the plate mounted permeable rib and heated by the law of q"w = const are experimentally investigated. Three
different structures of the rectangular rib (converging slit rib, diffuser slit rib, and slit rib with constant crosssection) are analyzed and compared with the solid rib results under similar test conditions. Experimental studies
were conducted using a microprobe Pitot-Prandtl with microthermocouple and hot-wire anemometry system by Dantec Dynamics. Experimental data on the mean and fluctuating characteristics in a turbulent boundary layer under these conditions are obtained. The results show that the dimensions of the vortex zones before and after the rib decrease significantly, and stagnant regions disappear. Moreover, an additional source of velocity fluctuation is observed. The results also show that the use of the slit rib for the purpose of heat transfer enhancement is reasonable.
