Abstract

The interaction of collimated beam radiation with natural convection in two-dimensional differential heated square geometry of unit length dimension is studied by using the commercial CFD software ANSYS Fluent. The collimated direction of the beam makes 45° from the vertical wall and passes through the window at the height of 0.7 m from the bottom wall. The top and bottom walls are adiabatic, whereas convective heat flux boundary conditions had applied to opposite vertical walls. The heat transfer coefficients 5W/m2K has taken for natural convection outside of the computation domain. The free stream temperatures 300K and 315K,are kept for left and right side walls, respectively. The whole system resembles the solar radiation incident on the house. The Boussinesq approximation has been used to model the buoyancy flow. The fluid flow simulation has performed for the laminar region. The temperature contours, streamlines, Nusselt number plots have presented. The collimated beam radiation alters the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics inside geometry drastically, and radiation fluxes are in the same order as the convective fluxes.
