Abstrakt

This study investigated film boiling heat transfer on a horizontal plate from both a fundamental and a phenomenological viewpoint. Experimental results were obtained for Freon-11. The basic ideas of the theoretical analysis are that the liquid layer possesses a net upward momentum during bubble formation which is due to the rise in mean level of this layer, and that the pressure in the vapor film is uniform. The wavelength obtained is λ= 2ϖ√(6σ/ρlg) and is checked by the experimental results of this investigation. A correlation utilizing a forced convection model can be expressed as St' = Re−0.915 and represents the available data for film boiling of organic liquids and water with considerable success.
