Regenerator matrices with sine-duct type passages are discussed and the results of heat transfer and friction tests reported. Methods of evaluating the matrix passage parameters are investigated and recommendations made with special emphasis on ceramic matrices. The matrix tested had low aspect ratio passages and the results indicated that established laminar flow was not achieved. Comparison with previous experimental and theoretical work shows the heat transfer and friction performance to depend on
the aspect ratio. An optimum aspect ratio is indicated.
