Abstrakt

The problem of conjugate free convection in a porous medium from a vertical plate fin is considered. The governing equations of the convective flow in the porous medium are coupled to the governing equation for the heat flow in the fin by the conditions of continuity of the temperature and the heat flux at the interface. The heat flow in the fin is taken to be either two-dimensional, thus extending earlier studies, or one-dimensional, in order to compare the results provided by both approaches. In the case of the two-dimensional approach, the governing parameters are the ratio of the thermal conductivities of the finite plate and the porous medium, k, the aspect ratio of the finite plate, λ, and the Rayleigh number, Ra, whilst in the one-dimensional approach only two parameters appear, namely the convection-conduction parameter, Ncc, and Ra.
