ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES FOR BASIC THERMAL DESIGN OF COMPLEX HEAT EXCHANGER CONFIGURATIONS
Abstrakt
Recently developed analytical techniques for solving linear thermal problems for complex heat exchanger configurations are presented. They are based on the decomposition of a complex geometry into smaller units, each of which is solved separately. The descriptions of each unit, and of the whole assembly, are performed using a generalized matrix formalism which incorporates the treatment of multiple streams and of continuous temperature distributions. Throughout the presentation, extensive use is made of symmetry properties, which simplify calculations and provide new insights into the processes analyzed. The techniques used are illustrated with examples of MTD calculations for configurations of practical interest.
