COMPUTER SIMULATION STUDY OF THERMOHYDRAULIC PERFORMANCE OF CORRUGATED DUCTS
Abstrakt
The study presents results of computer simulation of the flow with heat transfer in corrugated passages, such as are frequently used in plate heat exchangers, regenerators, adsorbers and column inserts. The computational tool is the three dimensional Harwell code FL0W3D and its standard (finite difference) k−ε turbulence model. Fully developed air flow is simulated in the elementary, repeatable section of the flow duct Description of the grid adopted, using a 'body-fitted' co-ordinate system, is given. Thermohydraulic performance, i.e.friction factor, local and averaged heat transfer coefficients and their changes with Re-number and with principal parameters characterizing these elementary sections, are presented and compared with other (including experimental) published results. Additionally, the practical and general method (tested for different channels on different types of codes) of increasing the range of geometrical parameters characterizing ducts, in which computer simulations can be made, is described.
