STEAM CONDENSATION INDUCED WATER HAMMER IN VERTICAL UP-PILL CONFIGURATION
Abstrakt
A simple analytical approach was developed to analyze steam condensation induced water hammer in a pipe. The model solved the transient one-dimensional equation of motion of the incoming fluid assuming piston-like flow. Steam pressure in the pipe during the transient was calculated based on an estimated steam condensation rate. A coefficient of restitution was used to determine the separation velocity of the water column after impacting the pipe dead-end. Hammering magnitudes were obtained using the Joukowsky relationship.
The model was used to analyse the water hammer transients in a vertical pipe. The hammering frequency and magnitudes were found to compare well with existing test data.
