INTERACTIONS BETWEEN HEAT TRANSFER AND BUBBLE FORMATION IN NUCLEATE BOILING

Abstrakt

The long term aim of nucleate boiling heat transfer research should be the development of a calculation procedure for the heat flux from a heated wall to a boiling pure liquid or mixture, which is based on the heat and mass transfer processes connected with the detailed events of vapour bubbles growing, departing and sliding on the wall, and with the interactions of bubbles and of neighbouring nucleation sites within the microstructure of the heating surface. Because much less quantitive information exists in the literature on the roughness profile of the surface and on the formation, departure and interactions of bubbles than on heat transfer, little progress has been made so far in the development of theoretically based predictive methods, especially for heat transfer conditions relevant in practice.
Recent studies of nucleate boiling are reviewed in this paper in the form of a survey focusing on parallel investigations of heat transfer and bubble formation. Following the survey, various aspects of the interactions between heat transfer and bubble formation are discussed with representative examples.
