LOCAL HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS IN FILM BOILING OF LIQUID NITROGEN ON A VERTICAL SURFACE
Abstract
The local heat transfer rates in free convection film boiling on a vertical surface in saturated liquid nitrogen have been determined experimentally under steady state for the first time for the cases of constant wall temperature, uniform wall heat flux and nonisothermal wall. The experimental investigation is confined to the power law type of temperature variation. The local heat fluxes are measured using a heat flux pick-up. The local heat transfer rates measured vary from 0.5 to 1.0 w/cm2. The experimental data agrees well with the earlier theories of free convection film boiling from nonisothermal surfaces proposed by the authors.
