RADIANT HEAT TRANSFER FOR ROUGH SURFACES
Abstract
Radiant heat transfer between rough surfaces was examined with the objective of developing a relationship between surface specularity and optical roughness. It was established that a direction dependent surface property model provides excellent heat transfer results when a specular reflection model is employed for σ/λc ≤ 0.01 and when a diffuse reflection model is used for σ/λc ≥ 1.0. In the intermediate range, the direction dependent specular plus diffuse reflectance model yields excellent results when a correlation developed herein between surface specularity and optical roughness is employed. Recommendations are given for extending the correlation to other geometrical arrangements.
