A Comprehensive Assessment of Round Tube CHF Prediction Models for Square-Latticed Rod Bundles
Abstract
A feasibility study on the application of round tube CHF prediction models to square-lattice rod bundles was conducted by employing empirical correlations, theoretical DNB models, and the CHF lookup table method. CHF data for square-lattice rod bundles have been collected extensively under PWR and BWR conditions. The local thermal hydraulic conditions at CHF locations were calculated by a subchannel analysis code. In view of the applicable range and the prediction accuracy, the CHF lookup table method appeared to be a promising model applicable to rod bundles. For 9113 CHF data points from rod bundles with uniform axial power shapes, the mean and standard deviation of P/M by the 'heat balance method' and 'direct substitution method' were evaluated as 0.982/0.109 and 0.966/0.287, respectively.
