Abstract

The exact analytical solution to the two-dimensional approach to the problem of the rewetting of an homogeneous solid rod with precursory cooling is here presented.
Following Dua and Tien /1/, the heat transfer process is idealized by assuming a constant heat transfer coefficient in the wet region and an exponentially decaying heat flux in the dry one. The obtained solution furnishes explicit expressions for the dimensionless temperature distribution in the rod and, in particular, for the dimensionless sputtering temperature.
Results of some calculations performed by using the present solution in correspondence of representative values of the involved parameters are also reported.
