Sinopsis

The heat transfer from a rotating disc in an airstream parallel to the plane of rotation is of importance in the assessment of disc brake performance.
Experimentally determined heat transfer coefficients are accordingly presented for a range of rotational speeds and air crossflow velocities. These were obtained with an electrically heated disc rotating in a wind tunnel. The extreme conditions of a stationary disc in an airflow and a rotating disc in still air are also considered.
An approximate analysis is given, based on a combination of data for a rotating disc and a stationary surface.
