Sinopsis

A detailed Investigation of the effect of swirler angle, stabilizing angle and flow rate upon the flow pattern, intensity of turbulence and heat transfer in cold combustion chambers is presented. The results indicate that a central recirculation flow is formed upstream in case of small swirl and along the whole chamber in case of high swirl. This recirculation is shown to be much lower for swirlers of angle less than the stabilizing angle. A solid vortex flow is formed at the central zone. The behaviour of the angular velocity free vortex index and convective heat transfer coefficient has been deterinined. Dimensional analysis has been used to develop a generalized equation for the heat transfer to the chamber wall. Such information is useful for modelling of fuel spray in combustion chambers of gas turbine.
