Sinopsis

Small drops in relatively low velocity fields may be represented as being non-circulating. Condensation of a saturated vapor on such drops may therefore be posed as a non-linear transient conduction problem. Since the thermal capacity of such drops is small the condensate layer that may be achieved is thin. Taking this into account previous investigators have ignored the condensate film resistance thereby linearizing the problem. The present paper evaluates the effects of this linearization by solving the non-linear problem numerically. It is shown that to neglect the thermal resistance of the film is non-conservative, especially when applied to the condensing of organic vapors.
