A GENERAL CORRECTION FACTOR FOR THE USE OF SATURATED BOILING CORRELATIONS IN COMPUTING CONVECTIVE SUBCOOLED BOILING
Sinopsis
The superposition method has proven successful for computing heat transfer in boiling convection and especially in subcooled boiling, superposition being defined here as the sum of convective and boiling heat transfer. In order to improve the precision of the correlations and to use only one correlation for partially and fully developed boiling, a correction factor is introduced which takes into account departure from fully developed boiling. A general expression for this correction factor is derived from hydrodynamics and bubble growth considerations. Due to its general nature, it can be applied to numerous correlations. Some examples are given with the well-known correlations of Chen and Bjorge-Hall-Rohsenow, and comparisons with five experimental data sets yielded improved results.
