Concurrent Large-Eddy Simulation of Wall-Jet Heat Transfer Enhanced by Systematically-Deformed Turbulence Promoter
Sinopsis
Concept of concurrent large-eddy simulation (C-LES) was newly proposed and applied to two-dimensional jet
impingement heat transfer enhanced by a single rib. Installation of the rib induces flow separation and
reattachment, and realize high heat transfer coefficient in the wall jet region. Higher rib-height was found to be
effective to make the enhanced heat transfer region larger. Large eddy simulation was found to predict reattachment length correctly, which then resulted in good agreement of local heat transfer coefficients between mass transfer experiment and simulations when considering a local value of exponent for Prandtl and Schmidt number used in heat and mass transfer analogy. In addition, concurrent large eddy simulations for different rib-heights, which are realized by an in-house code, are found effective to examine the effect of rib-height on the formation of turbulent eddy structure passing over the rib, which then forms turbulent shear layer behind the rib and are responsible for the enhancement of turbulent heat transfer around reattachment region.
