THERMAL INTERACTIONS IN COUNTERCURRENT-FLOW DOUBLE-PIPE HEAT EXCHANGERS
Résumé
Rigorous analysis is performed to study the thermal interactions in countercurrent flow streams in double-pipe heat exchangers. In particular, results are presented for heating benzene by hot liquid water over wide ranges of primary dimensionless parameters, Re1, Re2 and β. Strong thermal interactions are observed in the regions near the exit of each stream. For a typical case considered, 1-D analysis overpredicts the overall heat transfer rate by 13.7 % if the inner pipe wall is assumed at a uniform heat flux condition, while an underprediction of 3.5 % is observed for a presumed uniform wall temperature.
