Résumé

Steady three-dimensional natural convection in a fluid of infinite extent about a heated horizontal isothermal cylinder with equally spaced transverse circular conducting fins is considered numerically. The coupled fluid-fin equations were solved using the vorticity-vector potential technique. Solutions were obtained for a Rayleigh number of 106 and a Prandtl number of 5. A parametric study was performed by varying the fin length, fin spacing and the fin conductivity parameter. Both local and total heat transfer results are presented. The majority of the heat transfer from the fin occurs in the lower half whereas the heat transfer in the upper half can change direction at low fin conductivities.
