Résumé

Higher-order expansions in terms of large Grashof numbers are presented for laminar plumes. For plane flow, a third-order analysis, including eigensolutions and accounting for temperature dependence of all fluid properties, helps to resolve previously observed discrepancies between theoretical predictions and experimental data. For axisymmetric flow it is shown that the expansion does not simply proceed in powers of the Grashof number but contains logarithmic terms. The sign of the logarithmic terms depend on whether the fluid is unbounded or bounded by a horizontal wall in which the heat source is located.
