FLOW TRANSITION IN LAMINAR BUOYANT FLOW IN A THREE-DIMENSIONAL TILTED RECTANGULAR ENCLOSURE
Résumé
When a differentially-heated rectangular enclosure is tilted toward the limiting case of fluid heated from below, it has been observed experimentally that there exists a critical tilt angle which corresponds to a minimum heat transfer rate and at which the flow changes from a 2-D unicell structure to that of a 3-D oblique roll. A numerical study based on 3-D finite-difference calculations utilizing the QUICK scheme has been carried out to predict the critical tilt angles at aspect ratios and Rayleigh numbers for which specific experimental results for air are known. Good comparisons have been found, and the results also show many interesting details of the flow transition process in the neighborhood of the critical tilt angle.
